New Alamein Sculpture Symposium 2025: New Alamein on the Global Art Map

Mona Yousef

Egypt’s rising Mediterranean city, New Alamein, is fast becoming a global destination not just for luxury development and tourism, but for contemporary public art. This month, the city is launching the first-ever New Alamein International Sculpture Symposium, bringing together sculptors from across the globe to create monumental artworks destined for public display.

New Cultural Chapter for a New City

Held from October 4  to 29, 2025, the New Alamein International Sculpture Symposium features 30 renowned artists, both Egyptian and international, working in mediums such as stone, metal, and recycled materials. The initiative is part of a broader cultural strategy to make New Alamein a beacon of artistic innovation on Egypt’s northwestern coast.

Organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, New Alamein City Authority, and local art institutions, the event offers a unique blend of creativity, civic engagement, and urban development.

Sculpting the City in Real Time

Over the course of the month, the selected artists work in an open-air art space, allowing the public to witness the creative process in real time. This interactive format promotes transparency and accessibility — bringing communities closer to contemporary art.

The final sculptures will be donated to the New Alamein City Authority and installed in public spaces including parks, waterfront promenades, and civic squares, transforming the city’s skyline into a living gallery.

Beyond Sculpture: A Full Cultural Experience

The symposium is more than just chisel and stone. It includes a comprehensive program of art talks, workshops, exhibitions, and cultural exchanges. Artists were also given the opportunity to explore Egypt’s rich heritage with curated visits to the Pyramids of Giza, the Grand Egyptian Museum, and historic Alexandria — blending the ancient with the avant-garde.

 Public Art and Urban Identity

New Alamein’s sculpture symposium isn’t just about aesthetics — it’s about identity-building in one of Egypt’s most ambitious new cities.

As part of Egypt’s Vision 2030 plan, New Alamein is being developed as a model of sustainable urban growth. The inclusion of large-scale public art projects highlights the role of culture as a cornerstone of modern development — not just an add-on.

The permanent installations from the symposium will play a key role in shaping the city’s cultural character, attracting tourists, art lovers, and investors alike.

With strategic support and growing interest, New Alamein is poised to rival global art cities — not just for its skyline, but for the stories and sculptures that fill its streets.
