Minister of Local Development Accompanies the Governor-General of Australia on a Tour of Pyramids and GEM

In a demonstration of the strong cultural and tourism ties between Egypt and Australia, Dr. Manal Awad, the Minister of Local Development, accompanied the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, David Hurley, on a tour of the Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza. Also present at the tour were Dr. Axel Wabnehorst, the Australian Ambassador to Egypt, Mr. Hani Nagi, the Egyptian Ambassador to Australia, Dr. Mohamed Ismail, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and several officials from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.

A Tour of the Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum

The tour began with a visit to the Grand Egyptian Museum, where the Governor-General and her delegation were introduced to a number of priceless artifacts and exhibits in the museum’s main halls. The Governor-General expressed deep admiration for the museum’s innovative exhibition style, which beautifully showcases the grandeur and depth of ancient Egyptian civilization.

Mrs. Hurley also took part in a guided tour of the archaeological site of the Pyramids, where she shared her awe and appreciation for one of the world’s most iconic landmarks. She expressed how amazed she was at the ingenuity of the ancient Egyptians in constructing the Pyramids, highlighting their remarkable architectural achievements.

The Role of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Boosting Cultural Tourism

During the visit, Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development, provided an overview of Egypt’s ongoing efforts in preparation for the official opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum. She emphasized that this monumental project is not only a museum but a central pillar in boosting Egypt’s global tourism appeal, offering a unique cultural experience that will attract visitors from all over the world. Dr. Awad also discussed the country’s ongoing development efforts to transform the Pyramids area into a sustainable tourist destination.

The Minister highlighted the infrastructure improvements taking place in the region, aiming to create a comprehensive and modern tourist experience. This includes the integration of new services and interactive cultural activities, which will enhance visitors’ understanding and appreciation of Egypt’s ancient history. The goal is to make the area both a sustainable destination and a global cultural hub.
