According to Dr. Maya Morsi, President of the National Council for Women in Egypt, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation member states’ commitment to improving women’s status, protecting them, and empowering them during peacetime and times of war and conflict is reaffirmed by the International Conference on Women in Islam.
Her statements came during her opening speech at the International Conference on Women in Islam “Status and Empowerment,” which is currently held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from November 6–8, under the auspices of the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
She emphasized the high standing of women in Islam, emphasizing how it upheld their human dignity and gave them authority over all subjects concerned with divine succession. She also brought up the fact that he is innocent of the historical oppression of women carried out in the guise of religion.
As the current president of the Concil, Morsi declared that the Arab Republic of Egypt intended to work with UN Women to host an international conference the following year to capitalize on media and religious discourse’s influence on women’s rights advocacy and protection.
The Council’s President denounced the human rights abuses that Palestinian women, in particular, and the Palestinian people as a whole endure, emphasizing that she rejects attempts to resolve the Palestinian cause and the forced relocation of Gaza’s population.
It encouraged the UN to demand sustained fast, safe, and long-lasting access to the Gaza Strip, specific protection for women, children, and civilians, and an immediate and durable ceasefire in Gaza without limitations or conditions for the sake of humanity.
Over the course of two days, on November 7 and 8, ministers, officials, scholars, and thinkers will continue the conference by discussing a variety of topics related to women in modern societies, as well as the status of women and their rights in Islam and the prospects for empowering Muslim women in the workplace and education.
