inDrive Celebrates Trailblazing Women Entrepreneurs in Egypt Through “Aurora” Initiative

Mona Yousef

inDrive, an international ride-hailing service, organized an event celebrating the five exceptional women entrepreneurs awarded through the company’s “Aurora” initiative. This program, designed to empower female founders in the burgeoning tech startup sector, culminated in a highly competitive selection process that saw over 2,000 applicants from 160 countries vying for recognition.

The initiative underscores inDrive’s unwavering commitment to fostering women’s empowerment and creating sustainable opportunities within emerging markets, with a particular focus on Egypt.

Empowering Women, Driving Innovation:

Bella Ghassemi-Smith, Aurora Tech Awards Lead, articulated the program’s core mission: to provide women with the critical resources needed to launch and scale their startups. This includes access to funding, mentorship, business networks, and enhanced market credibility. The program’s foundation rests on two pivotal pillars: “access” and “recognition,” with a six-month intensive effort dedicated to understanding and addressing the unique needs of these entrepreneurs within their local ecosystems.

Igor Fedorov, inDrive’s Chief Impact and Sustainability Officer, emphasized Egypt’s strategic importance within the company’s global vision. Operating across 17 countries, inDrive aims to improve the quality of life for one billion people by 2030. He highlighted “Aurora” as inDrive’s inaugural initiative specifically designed to support women entrepreneurs in Egypt, affirming the company’s belief that startups are integral to community development.

Mark Loehr, inDrive’s President, underscored the company’s significant growth in Egypt, where its services now span 25 cities, engaging over 100,000 drivers and serving 250,000 daily customers. Globally, inDrive has expanded to 84 countries, facilitating over 600 cargo operations, and tripling its business volume within the current year.

Spotlighting Local Innovation and Strategic Partnerships:

A highlight of the event was the recognition of “Hero,” an Egyptian app designed to enhance personal safety through real-time location information and emergency assistance via social media. This project received a special award for its innovative approach to addressing a critical community need.

Ghassemi-Smith reiterated inDrive’s commitment to building strategic partnerships, exemplified by its collaboration with the “Creativa” platform, alongside providing mentorship, funding, and marketing support.

Fedorov further noted that inDrive’s Cairo office serves as a pivotal hub for its Middle Eastern and global operations, leveraging social media platforms like Instagram to amplify community initiatives. He also referenced inDrive’s “Supernovas” program, which supports 700 children in various Egyptian governorates in developing their athletic talents, and initiatives empowering individuals with disabilities.

Competitive Advantage and Community Impact:

Loehr emphasized inDrive’s unique competitive advantage: “freedom of choice.” This allows passengers to select drivers and negotiate fares, while drivers benefit from a transparent 10% commission rate. Beyond profitability, inDrive prioritizes creating positive social impact in education, sports, and entrepreneurship.

The event concluded with inDrive’s reaffirmation of its ongoing commitment to supporting women entrepreneurs, with plans to significantly increase investment in community initiatives, particularly in Egypt, a key strategic market for the company.
