Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Giorgos Kotsiras, visited the iconic Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA), a celebrated cultural landmark in Egypt and beyond. Accompanied by a high-level delegation, including the Greek Ambassador to Cairo Nikolaos Papageorgiou and Consul General Ioannis Pyrgakis, Kotsiras aimed to deepen his understanding of the library’s pivotal role in promoting knowledge and cultural exchange.
Upon arrival, the delegation was welcomed by Heba El-Rafei, acting head of the External Relations and Media Sector at the BA. She guided the group on an informative tour, showcasing the library’s diverse sectors and innovative projects. El-Rafei presented Kotsiras with a copy of *The Photographic Memory of Alexandria*, further enriching the cultural exchange.
The tour included stops at the main reading hall and the “World of Knowledge” digital exhibition, where the delegation explored the library’s cutting-edge technological initiatives. They also visited various exhibitions and museums within the BA, such as “Alexandria Through the Ages,” the Manuscripts Museum, the Antiquities Museum, and the Sadat Museum, dedicated to the late President Mohamed Anwar El-Sadat.
Additionally, the group attended the civilizational panorama show, which highlighted the rich historical tapestry of Alexandria.
Concluding the visit, Kotsiras and his delegation expressed their profound appreciation for the Bibliotheca Alexandrina’s cultural and historical treasures. They lauded the library’s vital role in connecting diverse cultures and fostering dialogue and understanding among peoples, reinforcing its status as a beacon of enlightenment in the region.
