In a meeting that underscored Egypt’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment, Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Egyptians Abroad, received Amal Ammar, President of the National Council for Women (NCW), on Saturday, May 10.
During the discussion, Minister Abdel Aaty praised the pivotal role played by the Council in advancing women’s rights, empowering Egyptian women across all sectors, and reinforcing their position as vital partners in nation-building. He commended the remarkable achievements of Egyptian women in recent years, noting that this progress reflects the state’s prioritization of gender empowerment, as directed by the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
A Model for Regional and Global Engagement
The minister highlighted the Council’s active participation in regional and international fora, particularly its role in representing Egypt during the recent Universal Periodic Review (UPR) session at the United Nations Human Rights Council. He described the NCW’s contributions during that session as “professional, credible, and reflective of Egypt’s tangible progress in the field of women’s rights.”
National Strategy for Women’s Empowerment 2030
The meeting also addressed the implementation of the National Strategy for the Empowerment of Egyptian Women 2030, a comprehensive roadmap aiming to ensure women’s inclusion, protection, and leadership in all spheres of life. Minister Abdel Aaty and Chancellor Ammar also discussed the National Human Rights Strategy, which dedicates a core focus to women’s rights as part of a broader vision for inclusive human development.
Chancellor Ammar briefed the Minister on a series of initiatives and grassroots programs led by the NCW, which aim to combat gender-based violence, promote financial inclusion, and enhance legal and social protections for women, particularly in rural and marginalized areas.
Institutional Collaboration
Dr. Abdel Aaty expressed his appreciation for the Council’s dedication and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to cooperating closely with the NCW to amplify Egypt’s voice on gender equality on the international stage. “Empowering women is not just a national priority; it is a foreign policy imperative,” he said, noting Egypt’s efforts to integrate gender considerations across diplomatic, development, and diaspora engagement strategies.
The meeting concluded with a shared agreement to expand institutional collaboration between the Ministry and the NCW, ensuring that Egyptian women—at home and abroad—remain empowered, protected, and represented.
