An official in the Ministry of Environment asserted that Egyptian women have played a distinguished role in battling climate change, especially in the climate summit “Cop27” hosted by Egypt at the end of 2022 in Sharm El-Sheikh, whether at the logistical or executive level in the various dimensions of the summit, where they demonstrated their ability to achieve when given a fair chance of participation.
The source added, in exclusive statements to Youm7, that empowering women and providing them with the necessary capabilities, skills, and abilities is one of the sustainable development goals agreed upon by the international community, and they have made significant contributions to specific environmental files in several projects.
It comes as no surprise that women are the biggest supporters of climate action, as the issue strongly affects societies and people in developing and developed countries, but the most vulnerable groups are women, children, and the elderly, who are contantly exposed to greater harm and danger.
The official further stressed that many women all over the world face the negative effects that result from environmental disasters and natural phenomena, and according to all conversations, research, and studies, women are the most affected by climate change, as studies described them as the most vulnerable groups, besides children.
He indicated that women presented projects within the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects in Egypt, whether in the first phase before the COP27 climate summit, where 976 projects for women and climate were presented in the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, or the second phase before COP28.
