Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad Takes part in Cairo Sustainable Energy Week

Egypt’s Minister of Environment, Yasmine Fouad, recently participated in the opening of the second edition of Cairo Sustainable Energy Week.

The event, held under the auspices of the Arab League and the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, discussed the challenges of transitioning to sustainable energy and enhancing energy use and efficiency in the region, as per the Daily News Egypt.

Fouad highlighted the challenge facing the Arab and Mediterranean region due to the significant temperature rise.

The region’s temperature is 20% higher than expected, and its population density is 510 million people. This affects the region’s water cycle, food security, and public health.

The Minister stressed the importance of discussing the effective role of sustainable energy in driving sustainable development, achieving water and food security, and accessing new and renewable energy in the Arab region, the Mediterranean, and North Africa.

She also emphasized the need to consider the social dimensions during the rapid transition to new and renewable energy, including creating new jobs for those who may be affected by the transition.

Fouad also spoke about the challenge of financing the transition to sustainable energy in the region.

She highlighted the importance of sharing experiences, success stories, and lessons learned between countries, and underscored the significance of multilateral regional cooperation for Arab countries to overcome challenges and accelerate energy accessibility for all.
