Egypt’s NCW, UNDP Egypt Deepen Cooperation to Advance Women’s Empowerment

Egypt’s National Council for Women’s (NCW) Chairperson, Counselor Amal Ammar, met with Shitose Noguchi, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative in Egypt, to discuss strengthening cooperation in the coming period in support of women’s empowerment and inclusive development.

The meeting brought together Dina Refaat, UNDP Programme Analyst for Social Inclusion and Local Development, and Sherweit Ibrahim, Director General of the NCW’s International Cooperation Department. Discussions focused on building on the long-standing partnership between the NCW and UNDP Egypt to deliver measurable impact for women and communities nationwide.

Counselor Ammar praised the “productive and results-driven partnership” with UNDP Egypt, noting that years of collaboration have produced tangible gains in advancing the status of Egyptian women. She reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to expanding cooperation—particularly on women’s issues that receive strong backing from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi—underscoring Egypt’s state-level commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment. Ammar also reviewed Egypt’s recent efforts and progress across key women-focused policy and development areas.

For her part, Noguchi expressed appreciation for the close cooperation with the National Council for Women, highlighting joint initiatives that support women alongside youth empowerment. She emphasized priority areas including green projects, energy conservation, and sustainability—sectors that align economic opportunity with environmental protection. Noguchi stressed that sustained collaboration will amplify the positive impact of programs and initiatives, supporting Egypt’s broader goals of empowering women and youth while building more resilient and sustainable communities.

The meeting reflects a shared agenda between Egypt’s National Council for Women and UNDP Egypt to scale inclusive development, strengthen local capacities, and integrate gender equality into sustainability and climate-conscious growth—key pillars of Egypt’s development strategy.
