The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, through its Human Rights Unit, recently organized a symposium entitled “Working Women’s Rights” to commemorate International Women’s Day. The symposium is part of a monthly series that aims to educate Ministry workers on the rights guaranteed by Egyptian labor law.

The event was led by Dr. Mohammed Alaa, the Human Rights Unit Officer of the Ministry, and prepared by Mai Magdy, the Senior Policy Analyst of the Unit. The symposium was graced by the presence of two distinguished lawyers, Hana Mahmoud, and Mohamed Musa, from the Women’s Complaints Office at the National Council for Women. The Ministry is committed to promoting gender equality and ensuring that women’s rights are protected in the workplace.

During the seminar, Dr. Mohammed Alaa emphasized the crucial importance of women’s rights and gender equality. These issues are essential for creating a fair and just society that offers everyone equal opportunities to excel and utilize their abilities. Achieving gender equality is vital for overcoming challenges related to democracy, employment, and accessibility.

Alaa noted that no country has achieved perfection with regards to promoting equal opportunities for all. The difference lies in the societies that take real steps towards achieving this goal as opposed to those that do not take any steps.

He further elaborated that the current era in Egypt is witnessing significant participation of women in various fields, including the political sphere. Egypt boasts of having around 162 women in the House of Representatives and several women holding ministerial positions.

Alaa went on to emphasize the increasing number of women ministers in the Egyptian government. Alaa stressed the Ministry’s general concern and the Human Rights Unit’s particular emphasis on empowering women in all of the Ministry’s work and policies.
