For deepening cooperation between two key African postal operators, Dalia El-Baz, Chairperson of Egypt Post, held a bilateral meeting today with Isaac N’gouan Nambayahou, CEO of La Poste de Côte d’Ivoire, at Egypt Post headquarters. The talks were attended by Nermeen Hassan, Head of the International Cooperation Sector at Egypt Post, and come amid a critical electoral season for the Universal Postal Union (UPU).
The visit is part of a wider effort to reinforce strategic partnerships across Africa in the lead-up to the 28th UPU Congress, scheduled to take place in Dubai this September. Both countries are vying for seats within the UPU’s governing structure for the 2026–2029 term.
Egypt is seeking re-election to both the Council of Administration and the Postal Operations Council, while Côte d’Ivoire is campaigning for the latter. Nambayahou is also running for the position of Deputy Director General of the UPU.
Egypt Affirms Support for Côte d’Ivoire’s Candidacy
During the meeting, El-Baz reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for Nambayahou’s candidacy, praising Côte d’Ivoire’s leadership in West Africa and its growing role in regional integration. She emphasized Egypt Post’s commitment to mutual coordination with its Ivorian counterpart during the upcoming UPU elections and beyond.
Both sides agreed to exchange support for their respective candidacies, aligning their diplomatic strategies to secure broader African representation in global postal governance.
Cooperation Rooted in Shared Development Goals
El-Baz highlighted Egypt Post’s ongoing commitment to supporting African partners, providing technical and operational assistance aimed at modernizing postal infrastructure and boosting service efficiency across the continent. These efforts, she noted, are designed to help foster greater trade, connectivity, and economic growth throughout Africa.
For his part, Nambayahou expressed deep appreciation for Egypt Post’s longstanding cooperation, describing the relationship as reflective of a “deep and strategic partnership” between Egypt and Côte d’Ivoire.
He praised Egypt’s leadership during the 2022–2025 UPU cycle, particularly its co-chairmanship of the Postal Policy and Regulations Committee, where it played a central role in shaping international policy on customs procedures and regulatory standards—a growing concern amid evolving global security requirements.
Toward Greater African Integration in Global Postal Policy
Nambayahou called on Egypt Post to maintain its leadership within the UPU’s key councils during the upcoming term, underscoring the importance of African voices in shaping the future of global postal systems.
He also commended the modernization strides made by Egypt Post in recent years, citing infrastructure upgrades and service improvements that align with international benchmarks.
Both officials concluded the meeting by affirming their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation, not only in the context of UPU governance but also through practical joint projects that enhance regional postal capabilities and support greater African integration.
