The move demonstrates cooperation and integration between the Egyptian government, civil society organizations, and the private sector, the health ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
The initiative aims to support the treatment of those injured in Gaza, especially children, Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar, the spokesperson for the health ministry said.
The initiative will cover medical needs, treatment protocols, and surgeries, Abdel-Ghaffar added.
Egypt has already received 575 injured Palestinians from Gaza for treatment; the majority of whom are children while the rest are women.
Egypt is also providing care to 28 Palestinian premature babies who were evacuated from Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza City after it was bombarded and then ransacked by the Israeli army.
To help transport the injured, the Egyptian health ministry has stationed over 150 fully equipped ambulances at the Rafah border crossing with Gaza, according to the ministry’s spokesperson.
Furthermore, 35 ambulances with incubators are currently on standby to evacuate premature infants, who are now receiving treatment at 24 hospitals across Egypt.
Due to the depletion of fuel supplies, 26 out of 35 hospitals in Gaza are currently out of service, exacerbating the suffering of some 50,000 Palestinians injured in the Israeli aggressions, according to the health ministry in the strip.
As many as 2,670 humanitarian aid trucks have entered the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing since 21 October, with Egypt contributing to up to 70 percent of the total number of trucks.
