Dr. Ayman Ashour, Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Chairman of the Egyptian National Commission for UNESCO, highlighted the important role of UNESCO in promoting international cooperation in higher education. UNESCO plays a key role in developing policies, setting international standards, exchanging experiences and knowledge, and supporting scientific research and innovation.
The Ministry displayed interest in supporting young people involved in scientific research by providing them with all necessary technical support and funding. The Egyptian Knowledge Bank is one of the many bodies working under the Ministry’s umbrella to support youth in the scientific research field.
The meeting aimed to transfer the Egyptian experience concerning the Egyptian Knowledge Bank to UNESCO so that it can benefit from it and disseminate it to the member states of the international organization.
The event saw the participation of several officials, including Dr. Gina Al-Feqi, Acting President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology; Dr. Abeer Al-Shater, Assistant Minister for Technical Affairs and Supervisor of the Knowledge Bank; Mr. Mark West, representing the future of education and innovation team in the Education Sector at UNESCO; Ms. Ola Lawrence, Advisor to the Knowledge Bank; and Dr. Sherif Salah, Education and Translation Program Specialist at the Egyptian National Commission for UNESCO.
Among the attendees was also a delegation from the UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo, the UNICEF Office in Cairo, and the Knowledge Bank and Academy staff at the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology headquarters.
