Dr. Manal Awad, Damietta Governor, discussed the issue of economically empowering African women during the meeting of e Network of Locally Elected Women of Africa (REFELA), and the Mayor of New York City, Hon. Eric Adams. The meeting was held via the zoom app.
Manal referred to REFELA’s keenness to support this issue, highlighting the fundamental role of the African woman in boosting economic growth, and being a key agent in achieving development. She also highlighted the professionality of African women in handicrafts. Further, women’s participation in the labor market promotes economic indicators. However, women are still facing various challenges related to the lack of financial and promotional potential.
On the other hand, Manal highlighted Egypt’s efforts to address these challenges, including the launch of the Ayadi Masr platform for promoting women’s handicrafts, which was hailed as a success and expanded across Africa under the name of “Ayadi Africa”. Manal stated that she was looking forward to launching cooperation with New York City, unleashing new opportunities for the African entrepreneurs, opening new markets for them in the U.S.A, and offering them technical training to overcome any challenges.
