The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) just announced that banks operating in Egypt will be closed on Sunday and Monday, 16-17 April, on the occasion of the Christian holiday of Easter and the Egyptian spring festival of Sham El-Nessim.
In their statement, issued on Sunday, the CBE stated: On the occasion of Easter and Sham El-Nessim holidays, all banks operating in Egypt will be closed on Sunday and Monday, with work resuming on Tuesday, April 18th, 2023.
Last Wednesday, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced that Monday, April 17th, is an official paid holiday to celebrate Sham El-Nessim.
According to the Julian Calendar, the Egyptian Coptic Orthodox Church and other Orthodox churches will celebrate Easter next week.
