Egypt and Japan are planning to enhance their economic partnership, with a focus on industrial development, human development, and private sector investment as key collaboration areas.
Rania Al-Mashat, the Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation of Egypt, had a virtual meeting with Japanese Ambassador Oka Hiroshi to discuss the future of their bilateral relations on Sunday. This meeting marked the first interaction between the two officials since the merger of the planning and economic development ministries with the international cooperation ministry.
“We are committed to strengthening our partnerships with Japan in the next phase, with particular emphasis on industrial development, industrial localization, and human development,” stated Al-Mashat. She emphasized the importance of these areas for achieving comprehensive and sustainable economic development.”
The importance of utilizing Japanese expertise in these fields was emphasized by the minister, who also highlighted the need for a high-level policy dialogue between the two countries at the end of August.
This dialogue aims to tackle developmental cooperation issues, explore suggestions for future collaboration, and address technical assistance aligned with Egypt’s 2030 Development Vision. The upcoming visit of Al-Mashat to Japan, which coincides with the 70th anniversary of Egyptian-Japanese diplomatic relations, was also a topic of discussion.
The visit is anticipated to involve discussions with Japanese counterparts and developmental institutions. Al-Mashat noted that the Egyptian-Japanese partnership has significantly progressed under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, pointing out the elevation of bilateral relations to a strategic partnership level.
This advancement has been evident in various areas, including development projects, political and economic ties, trade, investment, healthcare, culture, education, and science and technology.
