Women in Creativity Africa Conference 2024 launched in Ghana to empower females

The Women in Creativity Africa (WICA) Conference 2024 was launched  at the British Council in Accra, Ghana. It was themed “Bridging Borders, Breaking Barriers” and aimed to boost the country’s female creative professionals.

The event, which was attended by seasoned female creatives such as Akosua Agyapong, Oheneyere Dr. Gifty Anti, Sharon Dede Padi, Regina Odigie Olatayo, Tonisha Tagoe, Rosalin Kyere-Nartey, and other notable guest speakers, provided an opportunity for open dialogues on some of the challenges that aspiring female creatives face and how to overcome them.

Speaking at the ceremony, Sandra Oquaye, CEO and Co-founder of the WICA Foundation, detailed the foundation’s goals and emphasized the significance of engaging in pertinent discussions to empower aspiring female creatives.

The first female president of the Institute of Directors-Ghana (IoD-GH), Rev. Angela Carmen Appiah delivered the keynote address at the event. She underscored the indispensable role women play in society.

Renowned Ghanaian musician and multi-hyphenate Akosua Agyapong also responded to a question about dealing with parents who are opposed to one’s pursuit of a career in the creative arts.

The WICA foundation, whose headline sponsors are the Anwia Teleku-Bokazo (ATB) Trust Fund and the African Freelancers’ (TAF) College, aspires to offer fifty (50) tuition-free scholarships to women in the creative industry yearly.
