Egyptian weightlifting champion Safaa Hassan clinched a bronze medal in the women’s 79kg category at the 2024 Paralympic Games, according to the “Ahram Online” website.

Hassan’s medal-winning lift came in her second attempt, where she successfully hoisted 139 kilograms.

Although she failed to lift 146 kilograms in her final attempt, her earlier performance secured her a spot on the podium.

China’s Miaoyu Han dominated the competition, setting new World and Paralympic records with a staggering lift of 154 kilograms, while Bose Omolayo of Nigeria claimed the silver medal.

Hassan’s third-place finish marked Egypt’s sixth medal at the Paris Paralympics, along with two golds, two silvers, and two bronzes.

With Hassan’s bronze medal, Egypt’s Paralympic delegation currently occupies the 39th position in the overall standings.
