Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founding Father of the United Arab Emirates, and his wife, Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, played an instrumental role in shaping the nation’s vision for women’s empowerment, according to Omar Habtoor Al Darei, Chairman of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, and Zakat.
In his remarks at the 35th International Conference of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Cairo, Al Darei highlighted the UAE’s longstanding commitment to women’s rights. He emphasized that Sheikh Zayed had a legacy in recognizing the potential of women and supported their advancement, and Sheikha Fatima follows his steps.
Al Darei underscored the importance of women’s contributions to society, particularly in countering extremism and promoting national identity. He noted that women, as the first educators, play a crucial role in shaping the values and character of future generations.
The Chairman called for renewed religious discourse and greater support for women’s participation in Islamic affairs. He also emphasized the need to address issues such as education, employment, and involvement in decision-making to ensure women’s full empowerment.
