Under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Egypt will host the seventh edition of its flagship heritage and handicrafts exhibition, “Turathna 2025”, beginning Saturday, October 4 and running through October 11 at the Egypt International Exhibition Center in Cairo.

This year’s edition marks a milestone in regional cooperation, with Tunisia participating as the Guest of Honour, and notable contributions from the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Algeria, and Pakistan. The exhibition is organized by Egypt’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA).

A Regional Platform for Cultural and Economic Exchange

Basil Rahmy, CEO of MSMEDA, emphasized that “Turathna” represents  a regional and international hub for strengthening cultural ties and boosting intra-regional trade, particularly in the handicrafts and heritage sectors. He highlighted that the inclusion of international participants reflects Egypt’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with sister nations and opening new export and marketing avenues for small enterprises.

Rahmy noted that the exhibition plays a strategic role in supporting heritage-based businesses, helping them access new markets, improve their product standards, and promote cultural exchange. “The participation of five countries in this edition, including Tunisia as Guest of Honour, adds depth and diversity to the event, offering a unique showcase of artistic excellence across cultures,” he said.

Tunisia’s Participation Reflects Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Tunisia’s role as Guest of Honour follows the recent signing of a memorandum of understanding between MSMEDA and the Tunisian Ministry of Vocational Training and Employment. The agreement aims to enhance collaboration in the development of small and medium enterprises in both countries and to strengthen economic integration and bilateral trade.

“This is more than just a cultural partnership,” Rahmy added. “It’s a reflection of growing economic cooperation, especially in empowering entrepreneurs in creative industries.”

Over 1,000 Exhibitors and 30 Heritage Sectors

The 2025 edition of “Turathna” will feature over 1,000 exhibitors from across Egypt’s governorates, showcasing handcrafted products from more than 30 traditional sectors, including:

  • Handmade carpets and kilims
  • Silk painting and textiles
  • Copper and glass crafts
  • Embroidered fabrics and Sinai products
  • Khayamiya (Egyptian tent-making art)
  • Shell inlay, woodwork, leather, lighting units, and more

Special national pavilions have been allocated for the participating countries, displaying distinctive folkloric and artistic products.

Turathna: A Showcase of Arab Creativity

With its growing regional footprint, “Turathna” has become one of the largest specialized exhibitions in the Arab world for heritage and handmade products. It provides a unique opportunity for artisans and entrepreneurs to network, exchange expertise, and access new customers both locally and internationally.

Rahmy affirmed that the exhibition aligns with Egypt’s broader economic and cultural strategy, aiming to empower small businesses, preserve intangible heritage, and foster sustainable development. MSMEDA remains committed to making “Turathna” an enduring platform that brings together heritage, trade, and innovation under one roof.
