Mona Yousef

Under the patronage of Dr. Maya Morsy, Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity, the Social Solidarity Units in Universities Project has officially launched the second edition of the “Red Week” campaign, in collaboration with the Egyptian Red Crescent Society (ERCS). Held under the theme “Renew Your Energy”, the initiative aims to promote mental well-being, personal growth, and volunteerism among university students across the nation.

The campaign was inaugurated at the Ain Shams University Social Solidarity Unit, with the attendance of Dr. Mohamed El Okby, Advisor to the Minister and General Supervisor of the University Solidarity Units Project, Dr. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of Ain Shams University for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Mr. Mahmoud Gamal, Director of Volunteer Management at the Egyptian Red Crescent.

Empowering Youth Through Social Awareness

This year’s edition of Red Week seeks to:

  • Raise awareness among students on how to effectively cope with life pressures and mental health challenges.
  • Promote the services offered by Social Solidarity Units within universities.
  • Encourage volunteerism and social responsibility, with an ambitious target of recruiting 100,000 student volunteers in the 2025 campaign cycle.

In alignment with the Ministry’s long-term vision for youth empowerment, the campaign delivers training and awareness activities that support students’ personal development, mental health resilience, and preparation for the labor market.

Nationwide Engagement Across 31 University Units

Currently, 31 Social Solidarity Units operate across Egypt’s public and private universities. These units play a critical role in:

  • Offering access to social services from the Ministry.
  • Hosting workshops and programs aimed at skill development, employment readiness, and social awareness.
  • Providing a platform for youth to engage in national development through structured volunteer programs.

Red Week is one of several key initiatives under the Ministry of Social Solidarity’s youth-focused strategy, which aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030 goals for sustainable development, social inclusion, and capacity building.

A Unified Message of Renewal and Empowerment

The slogan “Renew Your Energy” underscores the importance of emotional and psychological renewal for Egypt’s youth. By partnering with the Egyptian Red Crescent—a leading humanitarian organization—the campaign brings professional expertise in mental health, emergency response, and community-based support directly to students.

Social Media Campaigns and On-Campus Activities

The campaign is being amplified through a strong social media presence complements  on-the-ground activities held in university campuses nationwide, including interactive sessions, wellness workshops, and volunteer sign-up drives. “This campaign is not only about awareness,” said Dr. Mohamed El Okby. “It’s about action—empowering students to take charge of their mental well-being and to become active participants in Egypt’s future.”

With youth at the heart of Egypt’s development strategy, initiatives like Red Week offer more than awareness—they provide action. By connecting students to national institutions and community efforts, the Ministry of Social Solidarity continues to foster a generation of socially conscious, proactive leaders.
