The Spanish Ambassador to Egypt, Alvaro Iranzo, lauded the significant initiatives undertaken by the National Council for Women (NCW) to support and empower women, particularly in the economic domain. His remarks came during a meeting with NCW President, Aml Ammar, where both parties discussed avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation in advancing women’s empowerment.
Ambassador Iranzo underscored the importance of increasing awareness among men regarding their role in supporting the empowerment of women. He emphasized that this is crucial for fostering a more equitable society. Additionally, he reaffirmed the significance of future collaboration between Egypt and Spain, particularly in addressing critical issues such as the eradication of violence against women, expanding women’s participation in the tourism sector, and bolstering their social and economic empowerment.
In response, Aml Ammar presented a detailed overview of Egypt’s ongoing efforts to empower women. She highlighted the national initiative, Egyptian Women Empowerment Strategy 2030, which is part of Egypt’s broader Vision 2030 and aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
Ammar also drew attention to the government’s endeavors to promote financial inclusion for women, citing the launch of the Tahweesha digital savings application. This platform aims to enhance the economic independence of women by facilitating their engagement in financial planning and savings.
The NCW President further commended the fruitful cooperation with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). She noted that this partnership has contributed significantly to projects such as the establishment of a safer and more equitable working environment for women in Egypt’s tourism sector, thus advancing gender equality within this vital industry.
Both Ambassador Iranzo and Aml Ammar expressed optimism regarding the continued collaboration between Egypt and Spain, acknowledging the potential for future joint initiatives aimed at strengthening women’s rights and fostering a more inclusive and equitable society.
