The social networking application company, Snapchat, is developing new technology to facilitate the shopping experience by providing virtual mirrors in stores to help shoppers choose the appropriate clothing items for them in particular.
According to Gil Popilka, Project Manager at Snapchat, since most stores specify the number of pieces of clothing that the customer can take to the fitting room to try on, virtual mirrors will help reduce the number of pieces that the buyer takes to the fitting room.
It is undeniable that the Snapchat application has achieved great popularity for years, especially during the Coronavirus pandemic, allowing users to create images of themselves as if wearing a specific clothing item on the smartphone screen.
So, considering the ongoing birth of new devices, Snapchat seeks to provide this technology on a larger scale and offer this feature beyond the social networking application.
Notably, Snapchat cooperated with online fashion companies years ago, including the American eyewear store, Goodr Sunglasses, to use virtual mirror technology in its online store.
Snapchat is currently testing the virtual mirror technology in Nike and Men’s Warehouse stores in the US, where it entrusts the retailer to decide which clothing items can be tried on by virtual mirrors.
Popilka indicates that the project is still in its early stages and is a long way from customers buying clothes directly through smart devices using these mirrors, as Snapchat is still studying the possibility of providing this option. Although such mirrors are likely to be used in homes in the long run.
