Shereen Farghal, an Egyptian film production designer with a flair for blending innovation with heritage, has redefined Egypt’s global cinematic presence. Her design for the Egyptian Pavilion at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival’s Marché du Film clinched the Best Pavilion Design Award in its fifth edition, outshining entries from 150 countries.
Working against a tight timeline, Farghal collaborated with Jy Studios, the Cairo International Film Festival, El Gouna Film Festival, and the Egypt Films Committee, under the artistic guidance of El Gouna’s Marianne Khoury. Her vision transformed the pavilion into a mesmerizing space that employed optical illusions and mirrors to evoke a dialogue between Egypt’s cinematic past and its dynamic future. “I wanted to create a space where the world could feel the heartbeat of Egyptian cinema,” Farghal said.
Farghal’s design seamlessly wove modern aesthetics with tributes to Egypt’s cinematic heritage, featuring curated displays of iconic films. Lauded by industry peers, Farghal’s award-winning design highlights her ability to translate cultural richness into a universal language, positioning her as a visionary shaping Egypt’s creative future.
