The National Council for Women participated in the third edition of the “Science, She Says” conference, organized by the Italian Embassy in Cairo, in celebration of International Day for Women and Girls in Science.
Dr. Marian Azar, a member of the National Council for Women, delivered a speech on behalf of Dr. Amal Ammar, Chairwoman of the Council. She emphasized the significant contributions women have made in the field of science, noting that many women have been awarded the Nobel Prize in key scientific disciplines such as physics, chemistry, and medicine. “These women are a source of pride for all of us,” she stated.
Highlighting the Role of Women in Science and Innovation
Dr. Azar also highlighted the importance of women’s roles as scientists and researchers in finding innovative solutions to issues, particularly those related to women’s unique circumstances. She referred to Egypt’s National Strategy for the Empowerment of Egyptian Women 2030, which focuses on the importance of digitization, technology, innovation, and financial inclusion since 2017. The strategy has incorporated initiatives aimed at raising awareness about technology and innovation, including the launch of the Electronic Savings initiative.
She noted that the National Council for Women places great importance on women’s involvement in science, research, technology, and cybersecurity. The council has formed a specialized committee to focus on empowering Egyptian women in these fields, with the goal of enhancing their participation in achieving sustainable development and ensuring their safety in the digital space. Dr. Azar emphasized that scientific research plays a vital role in supporting women, turning research into projects and innovations that benefit society.
Empowering Women through Innovation and Technology
The committee also seeks to support women’s participation in developing technological innovations that address societal challenges, in line with the country’s development plans. Dr. Azar mentioned the series of videos launched by the National Council for Women, titled “Women of the Nile,” which aims to shed light on the work of Egyptian female scientists and their contributions to various fields of science.
In conclusion, Dr. Azar reaffirmed the council’s commitment to supporting female scientists and researchers, recognizing their essential role in finding scientific, innovative solutions that can address pressing issues. She emphasized that providing opportunities for women to engage in science and innovation leads to their economic empowerment.
