Red Sea International Film Festival celebrating Women in Cinema at Cannes

At the exquisite Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Cap d’Antibes, the Red Sea International Film Festival (RSIFF) and Vanity Fair Europe recently co-hosted a prestigious “Women in Cinema” gala. The event aimed to celebrate six remarkable women who are making significant contributions to the global film industry.

The gala, which is held in conjunction with the 77th Cannes Film Festival, is an integral part of the Red Sea Film Foundation’s ongoing initiatives to honor emerging female voices in the film industry, both in front of and behind the camera. This event highlights their significant contributions to shaping cinema and inspiring new talent in Saudi Arabia, Africa, Asia, and the Arab world.

This year’s honorees exemplify a new wave of female talent, each making significant contributions to the industry through their award-winning films, chart-topping music, and pioneering roles. Notably, Toulaye-Sy recently secured a prestigious spot in the official competition at Cannes with her debut feature “Banel & Adama.”

The gala attracted a distinguished crowd, hosting prominent figures such as Uma Thurman, Richard Gere, Yousra, Asmae El Moudir, Nathalie Emmanuel, Vincent Cassel, James Franco, Lucy Hale, Ikram Abdi, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Carla Bruni, Alexa Chung, Rossy de Palma, Amy Jackson, Lucas Bravo, Naomi Campbell, and Michelle Rodriguez.

The “Women in Cinema” gala forms a significant part of the Red Sea Film Foundation’s ongoing commitment to championing and empowering emerging female voices in the film industry. Through a range of initiatives and programs, the foundation is devoted to nurturing a new generation of skilled storytellers from Saudi Arabia, Africa, Asia, and the Arab world.
