Egypt’s former Minister of Health, and Public Health Professor at Cairo University, Maha El-Rabbat received the Heroine of Health Award at the World Health Summit. The award ceremony was hosted by Women in Global Health (WGH) to honor female leaders in the international health sector.
El-Rabbat was awarded in recognition of her leadership and efforts in public health, both in Egypt and globally, following her nomination by Egypt’s branch of the Women in Global Health (WGH). She was previously selected as one of six special envoys to the World Health Organization’s Director General during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Throughout her professional career, she dedicated her efforts to providing comprehensive health insurance and equity in health services.
The ceremony championed 17 honorees worldwide, witnessing the presence of senior officials in the world’s health sector, namely Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, First Lady of Namibia, Monica Geingos, and María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, President of the 73rd session of the General Assembly of the United Nations.
