Prime Minister Oversees Preparations for GEM Grand Opening

Egypt’s Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly today chaired a high-level meeting of the Supreme Committee dedicated to organizing the grand opening celebrations of the highly anticipated Great Egyptian Museum (GEM). The meeting underscores the Egyptian government’s commitment to ensuring the readiness and meticulous planning for this significant global event.

The high-level meeting saw the participation of key figures in the Egyptian government and related sectors. Attendees included: Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Lieutenant General/Kamel El-Wazir; Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sharif Fathy; Minister of Civil Aviation, Dr.Sameh El-Hefny; Minister of Culture, Dr.Ahmed Fouad Henou; Governor of Cairo, Dr.Ibrahim Saber Khalil; Governor of Giza, Eng. Adel El-Naggar; Assistant Minister of Interior for Tourism and Antiquities Police Sector, Major General/Hossam Hassan; representative of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority, Maj Gen. Mohamed Sayed Saleh; Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Cultural Relations, Ambassador/Yasser Shaaban; General Supervisor of the Great Egyptian Museum Project, Maj Gen. Atef Moftah; CEO of the United Media Services company, Mr./Tarek Makhlouf; Board Member of the United Media Services company,Mohamed El Saady; Assistant Minister of Finance, Khaled Nofal; Assistant Minister of Planning and Economic Development and International Cooperation, Eng. Nihad Morsi; and various officials from relevant ministries and authorities.

Dr. Madbouly emphasized that the ongoing meetings aim to maintain close oversight of all logistical aspects, preparations, and intricate details associated with the monumental celebration marking the opening of the GEM. He highlighted the collaborative efforts of various ministries and governmental bodies working in tandem with the United Media Services (UMS) company, which is managing aspects of the opening events. The Prime Minister stressed the importance of delivering an opening ceremony that appropriately reflects the deep-rooted history and civilization of Egypt, assuring that all arrangements are being monitored with meticulous attention.

Pyramids Area Enhancements and Access Changes Underway

During the meeting, official spokesperson for the Cabinet, Counselor Mohamed El Homosany, announced the commencement of the trial operation for the new entrance to the Giza Pyramids area via the Fayoum Road. Simultaneously, the existing entrance near the Mena House Hotel has been closed. Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Mr. Sharif Fathy, affirmed that all development work in the Pyramids area has been executed in a manner befitting the historical and cultural significance of the site.

Beautification and Infrastructure Upgrades Around the GEM

The meeting also addressed the progress in developing the vicinity of the Great Egyptian Museum and the Ring Road. Discussions included the visual identity improvement project, with Prime Minister Madbouly directing attention towards enhancing lighting, upgrading sidewalks, and prioritizing the meticulous planning and paving of roads surrounding the museum.

Sphinx International Airport Prepares for Increased Traffic

Prime Minister Madbouly stressed the necessity of elevating the preparedness of Sphinx International Airport in anticipation of the opening celebrations. He emphasized the need for the airport to be fully ready following its ongoing expansion and development works.

Minister of Civil Aviation highlighted the significant focus on Sphinx Airport, aiming to present it in an optimal manner in the lead-up to the inauguration. He noted the close monitoring of the airport’s readiness, the quality of services provided to passengers, and the strict adherence to the highest safety standards. Ensuring smooth travel procedures for both arriving and departing passengers is a top priority, aligning with the political leadership’s directives to accommodate the official delegations and guests attending the GEM’s official opening.

Coordination for a Memorable Inauguration

Mr. Mohamed El Saady, a board member of the United Media Services company, outlined the ongoing coordination with various ministries and government entities regarding the planned celebrations. This includes arranging the filming of key locations to be featured during the events and streamlining the entry process for attendees.

Governor of Giza, Engineer Adel El Naggar, reviewed the progress of works in the museum’s surrounding areas, including lighting and road planning in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport and the Armed Forces Engineering Authority.

Governor of Cairo, Dr. Ibrahim Saber Khalil, stated that coordination with the Minister of Transport regarding the Ring Road development and visual identity improvements is underway. He affirmed that all routes and roads leading from the airport to the GEM are receiving meticulous attention, declaring full readiness with all necessary preparations.

International Interest High for GEM Opening

Ambassador Yasser Shaaban, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Cultural Relations, informed the committee that Egyptian embassies abroad have been actively engaging with targeted countries and international organizations to extend invitations. He reported positive responses and significant interest in attending the grand opening.

Concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Madbouly directed each ministry and government entity to designate a focal point to coordinate and execute their respective tasks related to the upcoming celebrations.

The concerted efforts and high-level attention underscore the nation’s eagerness to unveil the Great Egyptian Museum to the world, showcasing its unparalleled collection and solidifying Egypt’s position as a leading cultural destination. The meticulous planning suggests an opening ceremony that will be as monumental as the museum itself.
