President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has reaffirmed the Egyptian state’s commitment to advancing human rights within a comprehensive framework, emphasizing the importance of ongoing efforts to ensure the rights and dignity of the Egyptian people. This comes as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Minister Badr Abdelatty, who also chairs the Supreme Standing Committee for Human Rights (SSCHR), presented the third executive report on the National Human Rights Strategy to the president.
The report outlined the significant progress made in implementing the National Human Rights Strategy over the past year. This progress spans civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights, with particular attention given to enhancing the rights of women, youth, children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities.
President Sisi highlighted that the state’s ongoing efforts are focused on providing Egyptians with a dignified and stable life, where they can fully exercise their rights while reinforcing the principles of citizenship, the rule of law, and non-discrimination. The president also called for sustained awareness campaigns across all state institutions to foster public understanding of human rights and the responsibilities that accompany them.
Furthermore, Sisi underscored the need for continuous development of legislative and institutional structures to support these initiatives, ensuring that human rights advancements are long-lasting and meaningful.
Launched in September 2021 during his previous term, the National Human Rights Strategy 2021-2026 aims to promote and protect all dimensions of human rights in Egypt. The strategy focuses on the respect and protection of civil, political, economic, social, cultural, educational, and capacity-building rights, with a special emphasis on vulnerable groups, including women, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
The overarching goal of the strategy is to promote equality, providing equal opportunities for all Egyptians without discrimination, and to serve as a national roadmap for human rights progress, driving Egypt towards continuous self-improvement in this vital area.
