Palestinian Women in Israeli Prisons Face Severe Retaliatory Penalties

News Agencies

The Commission of Detainees’ Affairs recently issued a statement, stressing that women detainees in Israeli Damon prison, particularly those arrested from Gaza, face difficult detention conditions and are subjected to aggravated penalties daily.

According to Addameer, the majority of Palestinian female prisoners face psychological torture and ill-treatment during their arrest and detention, including various forms of sexual violence such as beatings, insults, threats, body searches, and sexually explicit harassment.

Moreover, Women detainees are not told where they are being taken after being arrested, and their rights are rarely explained during interrogation.

The organization verified that Israeli occupation forces are carrying out a massive detention campaign against women in the West Bank, Jerusalem, and Gaza, indicating that all of them have been tortured and assaulted during their arrest and investigation.

According to the commission’s statement, the IPS intended to isolate female detainees while committing the most heinous crimes against them, as evidenced by:

– Unexpected inspection at any time

– Female Prisoners suffer from cold weather due to lack of clothing and covers

– Starvation due to poor food quality and quantity.

– Overcrowded cells and rooms because of the large number of detainees in the same location

– IPS seized all electrical appliances, including radios and televisions

The commission further pointed out that the previously mentioned practices are just a tiny part of their suffering and urged the international community to condemn Israel’s treatment of Palestinian detainees, which violated international norms and laws.
