The Women’s Prize for Fiction has announced the opening of nominations for the novel award for female writers only in its 2024 session.
According to the Women’s Prize for Fiction website, the award will receive nominations for novels written in English only, regardless of the writer’s nationality, country of residence, or age, and it is required that the novel be published in the United Kingdom between April 1 this year until March 31 of next year.
The winner of the Women’s Prize for Fiction will receive £30,000, along with a bronze statue called Bessie, designed by artist Grizzle Niven, sister of actor and writer David Niven. The winning writer is chosen by a council of five leading women each year.
It’s worth noting that the Women’s Prize for Fiction was established to honor the literary achievement of women writers, seeing as the majority of the winners of famous prizes such as the Booker are men, while research has shown that women’s literary achievements are often not recognized by major literary awards.
