The first edition of the New Valley International Festival for Heritage and Desert Sports and Arts concluded with broad participation from Arab and international countries, marking a significant cultural milestone aimed at preserving Egypt’s national identity and reviving its authentic heritage.
The festival was held at the Camel Racing, Equestrian, and Shooting Club Track, as well as the Heritage Village in El Kharga City-New Valley Governorate. The event showcased a diverse program celebrating traditional desert sports, folk arts, and cultural practices deeply rooted in Egypt’s history and the wider region.
Organizers said the strong international turnout reflects growing global interest in desert heritage and traditional sports, while reinforcing Egypt’s commitment to safeguarding its cultural legacy. Activities highlighted included camel racing, equestrian displays, traditional games, handicrafts, music, and visual arts inspired by desert life.
The festival aligns with a broader national strategy to protect Egyptian identity, promote cultural tourism, and support creative industries—particularly in governorates rich in heritage and natural landscapes such as the New Valley. Officials emphasized that reviving traditional sports and arts not only preserves history but also creates economic opportunities for local communities and artisans.
Participants and visitors praised the festival’s organization and its authentic setting, noting that El Kharga’s heritage village provided an immersive environment that brought together history, sport, and art in a single cultural experience.
Following the success of its inaugural edition, plans are underway to expand future editions of the festival, positioning the New Valley as a regional hub for heritage festivals and desert sports while strengthening cultural exchange between Egypt and participating countries.
