Nevine Gamea Elected by Acclamation to Board of Egyptian Insurance Federation

In a a new milestone for women’s leadership in Egypt’s financial sector, Nevine Gamea, Chairperson of Misr Insurance, former Minister of Trade and Industry, and a leading advocate for entrepreneurship and private sector growth, has been elected unanimously to the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Insurance Federation.

Gamea’s uncontested election underscores the deep trust she commands across Egypt’s economic and policy circles. With decades of public and private sector experience, she brings to the role a proven track record of institutional reform, strategic vision, and a commitment to inclusive economic development.

Her appointment was warmly welcomed by the National Council for Women (NCW), where she serves as a member and Chair of the Entrepreneurship and SMEs Committee. Judge Amal Ammar, President of the NCW, extended heartfelt congratulations, describing Gamea’s election as “a vote of confidence in her exceptional leadership and a reflection of her continued impact on the national stage.”

A member of the Top 50 Women Forum, Gamea is widely recognized among the most influential female figures shaping Egypt’s economic landscape. As Minister of Trade and Industry, she led key reforms to strengthen the country’s industrial base and expand access to finance for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). Her tenure was marked by a strong emphasis on empowering entrepreneurs, particularly women-led businesses, and enhancing Egypt’s global trade partnerships.

At the helm of Misr Insurance, she continues to advocate for innovation, efficiency, and broader financial inclusion. Her new role on the Insurance Federation’s board is expected to support the modernization of Egypt’s insurance sector, deepen public-private partnerships, and help align industry priorities with national development goals — especially in areas related to small business resilience and social protection.

Gamea’s appointment also comes at a time of renewed focus on governance diversity and inclusive leadership within Egypt’s financial institutions — and reinforces the increasing visibility and influence of women at the highest levels of economic decision-making.
