NCW’s Maya Morsy Appointed as New Minister of Social Solidarity

Head of the National Council for Women, Dr. Maya Morsy, was just sworn in as the new Minister of Social Solidarity, succeeding Dr. Nevine El-Qabbag, who served as Minister of Social Solidarity since 13 December 2019.

Morsy has been serving as the President of the National Council for Women (NCW) since 2016.

In 2022, she was elected as a UN member states to the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) for the term spanning from 2023 to 2026.

Moreover, the newly-elected minister received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the American University in Cairo in 1995. She then went on to earn an MBA from the City University of Seattle in 1997 and an MA in Public Administration from the same school in 1998.

In 2008, she obtained a PhD in Public Policy from the Institute of Arab Research and Studies in Cairo.

From 2014 to 2015, Morsy served as the Regional Gender Team Leader for the Arab Region at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

Prior to this, the NCW’s President worked as a Project Coordinator at the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) from 1999 to 2000.

Additionally, Morsy worked as a Consultant for the Girls Education and Empowerment Project at the Ministry of Education from 1998 to 1999. Earlier in her career, she served as a Project Officer in Egypt at the Sustainable Human Development Platform for Action and Monitoring from 1995 to 1998.

Through her vast experience and multiple roles, Dr. Maya has excelled in every position she has held and achieved exceptional results.
