The National Council for Women, headed by Dr. Maya Morsi, expressed gratitude to the UN-Women’s Office in Egypt for its coordination and implementation, as well as its appreciation for the research conducted by the Executive Director on Egypt’s response to the humanitarian needs of Palestinian women and children in the Gaza Strip, in accordance with the list of needs received by Minister Amal Hamad, the Minister of Women of Palestine.
Dr. Maya Morsi expressed her profound sorrow over the more than 120 days of aggression, violations of human rights, forced displacement, and starvation of women, girls, and children in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and the Gaza Strip, in blatant disregard for international humanitarian law, United Nations resolutions, and conventions.
Morsi demanded an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip without limitations or conditions for humanity, as well as urgent appeals to the United Nations and international court systems to stop their attack against Gaza. Moreover, she urged the UN to insist that humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip be allowed to continue flowing in a safe, timely, and sustainable manner without obstacles or conditions for humanity, and to oppose at all costs the forced displacement of women and children.
Similarly, the National Council for Women and the Palestinian Ministry of Women’s Affairs were praised in a statement released by UN-Women Egypt for their tireless efforts to rally assistance in collaboration with the international community in order to meet the needs of women and girls in Gaza.
A convoy of nine trucks carrying 7,000 suitcases of supplies for Palestinian women and children—mostly necessities for meeting their basic needs—was used by UN-Women Egypt and the Egyptian Red Crescent to deliver humanitarian aid to the women and children in Gaza.
Christine Arab said in a statement: “In the light of the launch of the United Nations Urgent Humanitarian Appeal for the Occupied Palestinian Territory, UN-Women is working in partnership with the Egyptian Red Crescent to support women in the Gaza Strip, in coordination with our offices in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.”
