The National Council for Women has organized a series of three workshops on gender equality aimed at male and female leaders working in three hotels in Cairo Governorate.
This step is part of a project to create a safe work environment for women in the tourism and hotel industry in Egypt, implemented by the Council in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development in Egypt.
The workshops are among the activities implemented by the project to achieve its goals of enhancing the role of women in the tourism and hotel sector and changing the culture and visions that support achieving development goals and the effective participation of women and girls in the comprehensive development process.
Shaima Naeem, Director General of Strategic Management at the Council, presented the goal of the project, the role of the Council in supporting and empowering women, and the mechanisms for implementing the axes of the strategy to empower Egyptian women in 203.
Naeem focused on the aspects that support women’s work environment, their economic empowerment, improving their skills and access to positions of leadership and decision-making, and the role of the Council in providing rehabilitation and building capabilities programs to improve the quality of rare craft and environmental industries that rely on natural resources for women entrepreneurs and implement awareness campaigns to correct misconceptions that affect the empowerment of women and girls.
Meanwhile, Safaa Habib, Head of the Central Department of Public Relations and Protocol, gave a lecture on the equation of change and the necessity of self-motivation to improve life practices and achieve goals by developing an action plan and monitoring mechanisms for its implementation.
On his part, Joseph Hanani, a development expert, spoke about the institutional culture and its characteristics that support the empowerment of women through the Wellspring Community Service Company, the supporting partner of the Council in implementing the project activities.
The workshops included holding awareness sessions related to the basic concepts of gender equality in the workplace, the impact of social roles on the culture and job opportunities for both sexes and mechanisms for improving the work environment in the tourism sector to be attractive to women’s work without discrimination or exclusion, in addition to holding sessions related to leadership levels and mechanisms for applying leadership.
