The Chairperson of the National Council for Women, Amal Ammar, and the Korean Amb. Kim Yong-Hyun, visited the National Council for Women’s pavilion at an exhibition marking the conclusion of a key UN project. The exhibition, organized by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and UN Women, focused on advancing gender equality and empowering women and girls in Egypt.
Dr. Ammar praised the diverse range of products displayed at the exhibition, all created by Egyptian women from various provinces. The items on display included intricately designed Christmas trees made from thread, handmade dolls for children, copper accessories, bags, and garments crafted from gabardine and linen. These creations were part of the “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign, aimed at raising awareness and supporting women’s rights.
Support for Women Entrepreneurs
Dr. Ammar expressed strong support for the women behind these products, highlighting the importance of initiatives that promote female entrepreneurship and craftsmanship. On the other hand, Amb. Kim, visibly impressed by the skill and professionalism of the women’s work, also commended the effort to empower local talent. In this regard, Director of the Women’s Skills Development Office at the Council, Mai Mahmoud,, accompanied them on the tour and provided insights into the exhibition.
Spotlight on the ‘Noura’ Program
During the visit, Dr. Ammar and Ambassador Kim also explored the booth for the “Noura” program, which receives patronage from Egypt’s First Lady, Mrs. Intisar El-Sisi. The program is designed to support women in their personal and professional development. The pavilion featured a presentation of the program’s evolution, training materials, and the age groups it targets.
Introducing the ‘Safe Women’s Unit’
The delegation also visited the “Safe Women’s Unit,” which operates under the reassuring slogan, “Rest assured, you’re not alone.” Here, they learned about the unit’s crucial work in providing support to women facing violence and other challenges. The unit offers a range of services, including a dedicated hotline for women’s complaints, as well as a separate helpline operated by the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood. The exhibition reflects on ollaboration between the National Council for Women, UNFPA, UN Women, and influential figures such as Mrs. Intisar El-Sisi.
