The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) in Fustat has launched a temporary exhibition titled “The Annunciation” in celebration of Christmas, showcasing the beauty and significance of Coptic art. This exhibition provides visitors with a rare opportunity to explore one of Egypt’s most historically important artistic traditions.

Displayed in the museum’s Egyptian Textile Hall, the exhibition invites guests to discover the depth of Coptic heritage, which plays a crucial role in Egypt’s cultural and religious landscape. NMEC CEO El-Tayyeb Abbas describes the event as a platform to celebrate Egypt’s rich cultural legacy while promoting universal values such as tolerance, peace, and coexistence. “Through this showcase, we hope to strengthen the bonds between cultures and emphasize the role of art in fostering mutual understanding and harmony,” Abbas said.

This exhibition is part of NMEC’s ongoing efforts to highlight cultural and historical events, while also raising archaeological awareness.

Nashwa Gaber, deputy CEO for archaeological affairs at NMEC, explained that the exhibition, which runs until the end of January, features a diverse range of artefacts that exemplify the wonders of Coptic art. Highlights of the exhibition include rare icons depicting the nativity of Christ, intricate wooden carvings, and ceramic and pottery items traditionally used in monasteries and churches.

By offering such a rich exploration of Coptic artistic heritage, the exhibition serves as a reminder of Egypt’s multifaceted cultural history and its ongoing contributions to global artistic traditions.
