Moroccan international referee Bouchra Karboubi will officiate the women’s football semifinal at the Paris 2024 Olympics. The highly anticipated match will see the United States facing Germany, according to Morrocan World News.
Referee Bouchra Karboubi will be accompanied by Moroccan colleague Fatiha Jermoumi, Diana Chikotesha from Zambia, and Kim Yu-Jeong from South Korea.
During the group stages of the 2024 Olympics, Karboubi officiated the match between Spain and Japan. In 2018, she debuted in continental refereeing by officiating a match during the final Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Ghana, where Zambia faced Equatorial Guinea. In 2020, she made history as the first woman to officiate a match in Morocco’s top men’s professional league, Botola Pro.
She was also appointed as a video assistant referee for the final match of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations between Senegal and Egypt in Cameroon and also officiated the final of the Moroccan Throne Cup. Chosen as one of the referees for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), she made history as the first woman from North Africa and the Arab world to officiate a men’s AFCON match, overseeing the game between Guinea-Bissau and Nigeria on the third day of the group stage.
Earlier this year, FIFA revealed that Karboubi had been selected for the officiating team for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. She was assigned to oversee the opening Group C match between Spain and Japan.
