Mona Zulficar Expands Her Legacy in Women’s Empowerment with Landmark EGP 400 Million Microfinance Agreement

Mona Yousef

In a decisive move that cements her position as one of Egypt’s foremost advocates for women’s economic empowerment, Mona Zulficar, Chair of the Board of Trustees at Tadamun for Microfinance, has announced the expansion of the organization’s credit facility with the Arab African International Bank (AAIB). The agreement adds EGP 200 million to the existing credit line, bringing the total to EGP 400 million—a significant leap aimed at funding women-led microenterprises across Egypt.

The partnership reflects Zulficar’s enduring commitment to financial inclusion and sustainable development, two pillars of her decades-long career at the intersection of law, finance, and social justice.

Mona Zulficar: Championing Inclusive Finance in Egypt

As one of the most influential figures in Egypt’s financial and legal reform landscape, Zulficar described the expanded credit line as a “milestone in Tadamun’s mission to empower women economically at scale.”

“Increasing access to finance for women is not only a question of social equity—it’s a strategic investment in Egypt’s future,” Zulficar stated. “This agreement with AAIB allows us to deepen our impact and reach even more women with the tools they need to thrive as entrepreneurs, employers, and leaders in their communities.”

Institutional Commitment Backed by Strong Partnerships

Supporting Zulficar’s vision, Riham Farouk, CEO of Tadamun for Microfinance, said the expanded facility will allow the organization to serve a broader segment of the female population across governorates.

“This agreement supports our strategic objective to reach the largest possible number of clients and contribute meaningfully to women’s economic empowerment in every corner of the country,” Farouk said.

Karim Gomaa, Tadamun’s CFO, added that the organization currently works with 12 major Egyptian banks and is focused on diversifying funding sources to fuel its national expansion strategy. “Our history of responsible lending and strong financial performance makes us a trusted partner in Egypt’s development financing landscape,” Gomaa noted.

Comprehensive Empowerment Approach

Under Zulficar’s leadership, Tadamun has created a diverse range of financing tools tailored to women’s varying business needs. This integrated approach ensures that female entrepreneurs are not only financially supported but also equipped with the knowledge and skills to sustain and grow their businesses.

Scaling Inclusive Impact

The EGP 400 million agreement places Tadamun at the forefront of Egypt’s efforts to achieve inclusive, gender-sensitive economic growth. For Mona Zulficar, it marks yet another achievement in a lifelong journey dedicated to justice, gender equity, and institutional reform.
