Ministry of Local Development Reports 82.8% Success Rate in Resolving Citizen Complaints Through “Your Voice is Heard” Initiative

Minister of Local Development, Dr. Manal Awad, recently provided a comprehensive report on the ongoing success of the “Your Voice is Heard” initiative. Since its launch in October 2018, the initiative has empowered Egyptians from all corners of the country to voice their concerns, with a striking 82.8% of complaints resolved in January 2025 alone.

Dr. Awad highlighted the ministry’s commitment to swiftly addressing public grievances, fostering transparent communication, and enhancing the quality of local government services. In January 2025, “Your Voice is Heard” received a total of 7,480 messages, including 704 complaints. Impressively, 583 of these complaints were resolved, representing a high rate of response. The remaining 121 complaints are currently under investigation, with efforts underway to address them in collaboration with the relevant authorities.

Since its inception, “Your Voice is Heard” has amassed an impressive 853,510 messages, including 134,600 complaints. A staggering 133,000 of these complaints have already been resolved, with a resolution rate of 98.8%. Dr. Awad noted that the ministry continues to work alongside local authorities to resolve the remaining cases, demonstrating the government’s ongoing commitment to citizen satisfaction.

In her report, Dr. Awad emphasized that the initiative’s success is driven by its multi-channel approach, offering citizens a variety of ways to communicate their issues. This ensures that citizens can engage with the government through the most convenient and accessible methods.

In January 2025, the initiative received 2,856 messages via WhatsApp, with 457 complaints. Of these, 374 complaints were resolved, accounting for an 81.8% resolution rate. Facebook also served as a popular platform for communication, with 4,460 messages received, including 202 complaints. The Ministry successfully addressed 174 of these complaints, achieving an 86% response rate. Additionally, 164 emails were sent to the initiative’s inbox, resulting in 45 complaints, with 35 being resolved—representing a 77.8% success rate.

The initiative’s dedicated hotline also received 724 calls, many of which were related to illegal construction and encroachments on agricultural land. The Ministry promptly referred these cases to the relevant authorities for immediate action.

Dr. Awad revealed that the primary issues addressed in January 2025 included street encroachments (197 complaints), waste management and litter (180 complaints), building violations (160 complaints), agricultural land and state property encroachments (145 complaints), and complaints about fare increases and transportation pricing (22 complaints). Each of these issues was directed to the relevant bodies for swift resolution.

The Minister assured that the Ministry is fully committed to further enhancing the “Your Voice is Heard” initiative, aiming to improve the speed and efficiency of responses in collaboration with local governors and relevant agencies. She emphasized that the initiative’s high success rate is a testament to the Ministry’s dedication to addressing obstacles faced by citizens and enhancing the quality of local services.
