The Ministry of Labor announced, in a statement, today, Sunday, its participation in the conference to launch the Gender Equality Unit and the convoys to empower women and combat discrimination in the workplace. This will be under the patronage of Hassan Shehata, Minister of Labor, in cooperation with the Technical Secretariat of the Gender Equality Unit in Al-Fayoum Governorate, headed by Dr. Amr Farouk.
This comes in light of the political interest in empowering Egyptian women, and within the framework of the National Strategy for the Empowerment of Egyptian Women 2017-2030, and to complement the launch of convoys to protect and empower working women and gender equality in the workplace.
This event is launched with the aim of empowering women working at various levels politically, economically, socially and culturally, and organizing a visit to 8 mobile units to follow up on the inspections of the women participating in the conference, and to provide services with a number of facilities within the governorate.
Dr. Shirin Abdul-Hay, Director General of the General Department of Women and Children’s Affairs at the Ministry, participated in the events of the conference and delivered a speech, during which she stressed the importance of the role of women’s empowerment convoys in the govern rates, the main goal of them and the extent of support and attention to working women, in light of the directives of the Minister Hassan Shehata, and his keenness to empower working women in a way that contributes and supports their effective participation in building a strong and cohesive country. Abdel-Hay also pointed out that, no desired progress will be achieved in this field without a real change in prevailing societal norms and values.
