Minister Shoukry, World Bank Official Discuss Economic Impact of Conflict in Gaza & Sudan

Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry met with the Director General of Operations at the World Bank, Anna Bjerde, on Monday to engage in discussions regarding the implications of the crises in Gaza Strip and Sudan on humanitarian, economic, and political circumstances.

According to Egypt today website the minister presented Egypt’s position on regional issues and the country’s efforts in promoting peace and security. Additionally, he highlighted the economic reforms implemented in Egypt and expressed the hope for increased support from the World Bank for development initiatives, considering the global and Middle Eastern crises.

In April, Minister of International Cooperation Rania al-Mashat announced that the World Bank is expected to disburse $1 billion to Egypt in the second half of 2024 out of the $6 billion pledged to the country.

The total amount will be disbursed over the course of three years, with an equal split into two portions. One portion will be allocated for government programs, while the other will be designated for the private sector.
