Egypt’s Minister of Local Development, Dr. Manal Awad, witnessed the signing of an agreement between Minya Governorate and Eco Agricultural Development Company. The agreement, which officially ends a previous contract by mutual consent, grants the company permission to utilize 2,500 acres of land in the western desert of Minya for the creation of a forest.

The agreement, aimed at achieving the greater good, was signed by Dr. Mohamed Abu Zeid, Deputy Governor of Minya, on behalf of the governorate, along with General Omar Mohamed El-Shawaf, Chairman and CEO of Eco Agricultural Development Company, and Eng. Milad Bishry, Chairman of the Minya Water and Sanitation Company. This resolution was made possible following a series of collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Local Development, Minya Governorate, and all involved parties.

Dr. Awad expressed the government’s dedication to resolving disputes between public entities and private companies without resorting to lengthy legal battles. “The government’s approach focuses on finding amicable solutions that serve the public interest,” she stated. The cooperation between the Ministry of Local Development and the local authorities was pivotal in finalizing the agreement, which ensures the optimal use of the land.

The 2,500-acre land, originally designated for the establishment of a forest, will now contribute to solving the environmental challenge posed by the “Al-Muheet Drain” issue in Minya. The agreement allows Minya Governorate to utilize the land for the construction of a treatment plant in the western desert area, in line with directives from Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

In a gesture of gratitude, General Omar El-Shawaf thanked Dr. Awad for her efforts in facilitating dialogue between the stakeholders, enabling a swift resolution. He added that Eco Agricultural Development Company would hand over the land in accordance with the previous contract, ensuring it is used effectively for the benefit of the local community and the environment.
