Minister of Local Development Receives Progress Report on Ring Road Greening Initiative as Part of the 100 Million Trees Presidential Program

Egypt’s Minister of Local Development, Dr. Manal Awad, has reviewed a detailed progress report from the Ministry’s Strategic Administration and Local Development Sector regarding the implementation of the Ring Road greening project. This initiative is a key component of the presidential program for planting 100 million trees in coordination with the Ministry of Environment and the project’s consulting partners to promote environmental sustainability and urban greenery.

Minister Awad indicated that the specialized teams have been conducting comprehensive assessments along the Ring Road to identify optimal locations and priority areas for planting within the Greater Cairo region.

The Minister noted that planting has already begun in specific locations within Cairo and Giza, including the area between the Asmarat Bridge and the Maadi Ring Road intersection in Cairo. Additionally, work is progressing on two sites in Giza, particularly around the junction of the Amr Ibn Al-As axis and the Pyramids Road.

Dr. Awad emphasized the necessity of close coordination between the Cairo and Giza cleaning and beautification authorities and the respective agricultural directorates. She underscored the importance of ensuring the proper care and ongoing maintenance of the newly planted trees, as well as securing reliable irrigation sources in collaboration with the water companies in both governorates
