Egypt’s Minister of Local Development,Dr. Manal Awad, conducted an unexpected visit to the Old Cairo district in southern Cairo Governorate today to oversee the daily services provided to citizens. The visit focused on ensuring the effective operation of the district’s technological center and addressing citizens’ concerns.
During the visit, Dr. Awad took the opportunity to meet with several citizens who were at the technological center to complete various local service requests. She ensured that their needs were being met promptly and that they were being treated well.
The Minister also reviewed the status of the reconciliation process for building violations, assessing the progress and the number of building permits issued. She was briefed by the district head and the technological center’s manager on the number of applications processed and any issues that had arisen.
Dr. Awad directed the district head to be present daily at the technological center to ensure smooth operations and timely service delivery, especially after receiving complaints regarding delays and incomplete requests. She also took note of all complaints filed by citizens during the visit and instructed the Ministry’s Inspection and Performance Monitoring Department to follow up on the complaints and ensure their resolution swiftly.
The Minister emphasized that the reconciliation of building violations is one of the top priorities for the Ministry of Local Development. She highlighted that all district heads, general secretaries, and deputy secretaries will be evaluated based on their performance in this area, particularly in terms of the progress made and their ability to resolve any challenges citizens face when seeking reconciliation.
Dr. Awad also pointed out that the Ministry will hold regular meetings with executive leaders from various governorates to monitor the progress of the reconciliation process, expedite the work, and overcome any challenges.
