Egypt’s Minister of Environment, Yasmine Fouad, recently spoke about the vital importance of prioritizing the financing of climate issues at the upcoming 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (COP 29).
During the session, Fouad specifically addressed the challenges faced by developing countries in meeting their climate change commitments and reducing carbon emissions.
She further emphasized that it is crucial to ensure effective decision-making and a unified global goal.
The minister also highlighted the difficulties in securing funding for climate resilience and the lack of grants allocated for this purpose.
Fouad made these remarks during a high-level session of an open dialogue, which aimed to gather ministers’ perspectives on the topics to be discussed at COP29.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 15th Petersberg Climate Dialogue in Berlin, Germany, where German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was also present.
