On behalf of H.E. Egypt’s President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Rania Al-Mashat, the Minister of International Cooperation, participated in the Italian-African Summit held in Rome. The summit takes place on 28-29 January.
Al-Mashat delivered Egypt’s speech, in which she highlighted the cooperation in the energy sector, the security of its supplies, and the development of African countries to curb migration flows to Europe.
She also addressed the development gaps in Africa and the need to green transformation in line with the Paris Agreement on climate change. She will call for mobilizing the efforts of the international community and direct them towards supporting the green transformation in Africa and reducing its vulnerability to climate change through the implementation of adaptation and mitigation projects.
As the current president of the G7, the Italian government hosted the summit, which was inaugurated by President Sergio Mattarella and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who introduced the “Mattei Plan.”
The Mattei Plan aims to establish a collaborative model between Africa and Europe, focusing on key areas such as education, training, health, water and sanitation, agriculture, energy, and infrastructure. This initiative is based on the principles of “listen, respect, build together.”
The summit brought together numerous heads of state, representatives from multilateral development banks, government officials, United Nations agencies, the European Commission, the European Parliament, and policymakers.
The Summit witnessed fruitful discussions and partnerships, fostering mutual understanding and cooperation between Africa and Europe in pursuit of sustainable development and shared prosperity.
