President of the National Council for Women, Dr. Maya Morsi, received Baroness Fiona Hodgson, Co-Chair of the Parliamentary Group of All Parties Concerned with Women, Peace, and Security, during her visit to Egypt.
The meeting was also attended by Ambassador Gareth Bailey, British Ambassador to Egypt, and their accompanying delegation. The field of women’s empowerment, and discussing future ways of cooperation in this regard.
Dr. Maya Morsi began her speech by welcoming the Baroness, the British ambassador, and her accompanying delegation to the National Council for Women, and introduced the council and the decision to establish it, its formation, and its terms of reference.
The President of the Council further indicated that there is a real political will that is keen to protect and preserve the rights of Egyptian women by issuing many legislations to empower and protect women, break glass barriers, and melt iron doors, allowing women’s access to leadership positions.
In turn, Baroness Fiona Hodgson expressed her gratitude for this meeting with the President of the National Council for Women and for learning about Egypt’s efforts in the field of women’s empowerment, stressing her great admiration for Egypt’s efforts in this field and what it has achieved so far, saying: We all share a common goal, which is to work to empower women and achieve equality between the two sexes, and we look forward to cooperating with Egypt and the Council to exchange experiences in this field and to achieve more in the file of women’s empowerment.
For his part, Ambassador Gareth Bailey said: Egypt is a key partner for Britain, and we are committed to our partnership to work on empowering women.
