Jordanian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Lina Annab, on Sunday praised the strong relationship between Jordan and Egypt, particularly in the tourism sector.

Speaking to MENA, Annab highlighted the importance of continued collaboration between the two nations, emphasizing that it aligns with the directives of both King Abdullah II and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to enhance bilateral cooperation, especially in tourism.

“Tourism is a top priority for both Jordan and Egypt,” Annab stated.

Regarding the Holy Family Trail project, the Minister underscored the ongoing cooperation with Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. “Mutual understanding and consultations between Cairo and Amman are the foundation of our strong relationship, marked by the exchange of expertise,” she said.

Jordan’s Christian pilgrimage sites, including five Vatican-approved locations, significantly contribute to religious tourism in the region. “Leveraging this potential will make both Egypt and Jordan leading destinations for Christian religious tourism,” Annab emphasized.

Egypt recently launched the Holy Family Trail, mapping out 25 stops along the route and encompassing some of the country’s oldest places of worship. The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities is actively renovating these holy sites, enhancing them with improved infrastructure and accessibility.

Annab also commented on the recent inauguration of the Baptismal Site Church of Jesus Christ, the largest Latin Patriarchate church in the Middle East. This significant event marks a crucial step in preparations for the 2000th anniversary of Jesus Christ’s baptism in 2030.

The Minister reiterated Jordan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and condemned the recent Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip. She acknowledged that the tourism sector in Jordan has been significantly impacted by regional developments, particularly the ongoing conflict. “The Ministry is actively working on developing solutions and plans to attract tourists back to the Kingdom,” Annab concluded.
